Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   What makes Beach Boot Camp different than the others?
A: Beach Boot Camp is unique.  It is a dynamic athletic conditioning workout performed on or in close proximity to the beach utilizing the terrain and equipment that is scattered about the environment.  You are moving from one location to another which helps to keep the workouts exciting and dynamic.  You will never repeat the same workout in any given week and you will never stay in the same location for the entire duration of the workout.  The scenery is breathtaking especially the sunrise when you scale the stairs at the R.C. Harris Water Filtration Plant or break through the morning fog while running along the Martin-Goodman trail.  This is the furthest thing from a gym environment.   I personally push each and every participant within their limits and only demand full attention and commitment while you are there.  I do not sit on my rear end while you work and 'no one gets left behind'!  I am along side of all participants at some point while I conduct the session no matter what their ability.

Q: What is the experience like?
A: You can choose 1 of 4 options.  All programs include weekly fitness and nutrition monitoring and suggestions.  Measurements of body composition and dimensions are performed as well as balance, strength, endurance, speed and agility.   These are performed at different intervals depending upon the package you choose.  See the program calendar section for details.

I lead by example.  I demonstrate and correct technique constantly.  I use only positive feedback and encouragement.  I reveal a silent strength though action and  I do not berate or put participants down.  I foster a positive, supportive, encouraging environment for all participants.  I take the best of the military environment and camaraderie that it produces to push you over the top in becoming more than you can on your own.

Q: What kind of results can I expect?
A: The leader today was struggling to keep up with the group last year.  She wasn't able to do a single push up and had difficulty running a mile.  However, she was very determined and I never gave up on her - even though there may have been days she wanted to say a few choice words  to me!

So far Gail has lost 49 lbs. and 10 dress sizes and virtually all of her cellulite! I always maintain that everyone has their strengths and weakness and I am proud to be able to help  'be all that you can be' no matter where your starting point is.

Q: Where and when do we meet?
A: On the Boardwalk every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6 a.m. in front of the Balmy Beach Club.

Q: How do I sign up?
A: Call or e-mail Bruce and he will set up an initial consultation to see if you are ready for the challenge.  The costs are outlined underneath the program calendar.

Q: What about the weather?
A: We will be outside unless there is a thunderstorm.  Bruce will communicate a 'rain delay' at 5:30 a.m. either via e-mail or calling the participants.  There will be make up days for holidays or lost sessions due to inclement weather.

Q: Is there a specific start date or cut-off date?
A: Unlike other programs you can start any time for the number of weeks you wish to attend.  This helps to accommodate individual holiday schedules.  However, the 4, 8, 12 week programs are continuous.  If you want to drop in only 2 times per week it is strongly recommended that you purchase a 20 session pass.  All missed sessions need to be communicated in advance to avoid the 'wake up' or 'what happened today' call or e-mail.
